History of Phelan Hearing Center

Co-Founders phelan Hearing

Cornelius (Neal) Phelan and his wife, Natalie Phelan, established the Phelan Hearing Center in 1968. The first location was on Pearl Street in downtown Beaumont. Mr. Phelan served hundreds of patients up and down southeast Texas as far north as Jasper and St. Augustine and as far south as Port Arthur and Orange. He traveled to these areas to discuss hearing loss, administer hearing tests and dispense hearing aids.

His son, James joined his father and mother’s company. Seeing the need for advanced training and education, Jim enrolled in Lamar’s Masters Program in Audiology and earned his MS in Audiology in 1984. His late brother, Mark, also had earned his Masters in Audiology and joined the family business in 1982. Neil and Natalie Phelan retired in 1993 and turned the business over to Jim and Mark. Jim went on to earn his doctorate in audiology in 2001.  His daughter, Christy Phelan Greig, Au.D,  joined the practice in 2002 and to continue the family tradition her son, Jim’s grandson, Cole Phelan Simon started working in 2019.

The Phelan Hearing Center is known for its customer service and dedication to the hearing health of its patients by providing state of the art audiology diagnostics, hearing aids, as well as rehabilitative and counseling services. We pride ourselves on the long history of the business and the fact that we are family owned and operated.  We are happy to have a four-generation practice serving Southeast Texas for over fifty years.
